Hotels have tried to increase consumers’ return rate by providing them with experiences focused on their five senses. Past research The purpose of this study is to explore the scent of hotels, using essential oils in different venues such as reception halls, guest corridors, bathrooms, and guest rooms, to create a sense of emotion corresponding to the scent. Hotel guests may thus get more immersed in the environment and have positive feelings towards the hotel. This study used an experimental method to sample 39 passengers. Two different essential oil formulas were each designed for four spaces, a total of eight formulas. A questionnaire was used to understand the guests' perceptions of the aroma formulas and their emotional responses evoked by the formula, so as to determine which scent design is most suitable for each space in the hotel. The study found that the herbal woody fragrance brought freshness to the hall while the Chypre scent created a romantic, relaxing and pleasant feeling in the hall. The fragrance with spicy notes created a romantic and relaxing atmosphere in the corridor. The Chypre scent brought fresh and comfortable feelings to the guests when they were in the toilet while the scent with herbal notes gave the bathroom a pleasant surprise, which creates a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere. The fragrance with spicy notes unexpectedly made the guest room felt fresh, while the herbal woody fragrance created a romantic, relaxing, comfortable and calm atmosphere. Through the feedback of the participants' questionnaires, it is also known that when the hotel has a corresponding scent design tailored to specific spaces, the guests will feel being honored and their willingness to revisit will increase. The findings can serve as references for relevant businesses in the hospitality field.
