Quelques hautes personnalités de la Bibliothèque Nationale ont joué un rôle prépondérant dans le devenir de l'ABF, et même dans sa section de lecture publique : on s'arrêtera ici particulièrement sur l'action de deux femmes, Myriem Foncin et Suzanne Honoré, dont les parcours furent différents, mais dont l'action fut déterminante.
