Finding new protein sources for use in aquafeeds has been a major focus in aquaculture nutrition for decades; during which countless alternatives have been proposed—from animal, plant and microbial origin. Though none of these ingredients can fully replace fishmeal, this diversity of alternatives prevents the occurrence of another ‘fishmeal trap’.
