Chemical compositions of essential oils of Daucus carota subsp. sativus, from eight locations in Algeria, obtained by hydrodistillation, were identified by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography/mass spectroscopy (GC/MS). The essential oils extracted from roots were composed mainly of oxygenated diterpenes (27.3%), oxygenated sesquiterpenes (14.3%), and nonterpenic hydrocarbon compounds (12.2%); oils extracted from aerial parts were characterized by sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (28.6%), oxygenated sesquiterpenes (24.0%), and monoterpene hydrocarbons (15.2%); compounds of roots’ collective oil were geranyl linalool (27.3%), myristicine (7.3%), pentacosane (5.6%), spathulenol (3.8%), and (E)-γ-bisabolene (3.2%). The major compounds of aerial parts’ collective oil were: alismol (15.2%), (E)-β-caryophyllene (10.1%), myrcene (9.6%), α-humulene (9.5%), and β-ionone (5.2%).
