Analyzes the essential connotation of socialist core values at four levels with the aim of forming and propagating the core values, i. e. , theory, ideal, consciousness and ethic. The Marxism as a guide determines the nature and orientation of the socialist cause with Chinese characteristics, so keeping up the Marxism to be the guiding ideology is the core. The ideal of socialism with Chinese characteristics is the ideological foundation on which Chinese people are possible to unite together so as to struggle for their own interests, so making the ideal more popular is important. The national and contemporary consciousness is a fresh impetus to the socialist cause with Chinese characteristics, so giving full scope to the consciousness is also important. The socialist view of honor and disgrace is an ethical foundation of the socialist cause with Chinese characteristics, so getting the view rooted in people/society is a key. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
