A recent study conducted at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, has identified a mutation in the Ier3ip1 gene that is associated with a neurodevelopmental disorder called Microcephaly with simplified gyration, Epilepsy, and permanent neonatal Diabetes Syndrome (MEDS). The researchers found that this mutation leads to a deficiency in B cells, a type of immune cell. The study suggests that B cell deficiency may be a characteristic feature of MEDS. The research was supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States. [Extracted from the article]
