A shocking but important finding is being reported with respect to the demographic make-up of 401(k) plan participants. Studies indicate that even Latinos working in the United States are less likely to participate in the plan than other demographic groups. This appears to be the case even when the plan offers a matching contribution and even when factors such as age, sex, and income are neutralized. These findings are very important because Latinos represent the fastest growing segment of the US workforce. According to the National Latina/o Law Students Association Blog, 1 the 2010 Census is expected to show that Latinos now make up approximately 14 percent of the US workforce and are expected to account for over one third of the US workforce by the year 2050.
