An editorial is presented which addresses the authors' views about disaster response management and the unmet medical needs of patients with noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) in America as of 2018. The economic aspects of disasters such as Hurricane Katrina are examined, along with medications for the treatment of NCDs such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and asthma. The chronic illnesses that are associated with Hurricanes Maria and Irma are assessed.
