Highlights: [•] Non-fumigant toxicity of Syzygium aromaticum and Cinnamomum zeylanicum essential oils were tested. [•] Both oils showed similar toxicity (LD50) to Acanthoscelides obtectus and persistence of action. [•] Increments in the oil doses proportionately decreased the growth rate of A. obtectus. [•] S. aromaticum oil delayed A. obtectus emergence and C. zeylanicum oil repelled them. [•] Both oils can be sustainable tools for controlling A. obtectus in storage facilities.
