This article discusses the chemical composition and antimicrobial properties of the leaf essential oil of Machilus platycarpa, an evergreen tree found in China and Vietnam. The essential oil was extracted using hydrodistillation and analyzed using gas chromatography and mass spectrophotometry. The major compounds identified in the essential oil were β-Phellandrene, β-caryophyllene, α-cadinol, β-eudesmol, and α-pinene. The research suggests that these components contribute to the antimicrobial activity of the essential oil, which was found to be effective against various bacteria and yeast.
