For instance, xanthorrhizol, an abundant constituent isolated from the essential oil of I C. xanthorrhizza i and I C. aromatica i rhizomes, has been known to exhibit a wide variety of biological activities such as anticancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antihyperglycemic properties [[4]-[6], [16]-[18]]. The disk diffusion test was the method used to study the antibacterial activity of the essential oils [[15]]. Furthermore, the chemical constituents and the antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory activities of the essential oils isolated from I Curcuma i sp. have been investigated in some previous studies [[3]-[7]]. Owing to the fact that the bacterial activity of the studied essential oil against five oral bacteria was stronger than that of positive controls (Table 2), the essential oil of I C. thorelii i rhizome could be potentially used as an antimicrobial agent.
