The essential oils obtained by steam distillation of aerial parts ofSantolina africanaJord. & Fourr. an endemic species to North Africa andSantolina chamaecyparissusL. growing in the East of Algeria were analyzed by GC and GC-MS. The main components ofS. africanawere β-pinene (12.78 %), 1,8-cineol (10.02 %), myrcene (6.94 %), curcumene (7.96 %), spathulenol (5.96 %) and β-eudesmol (14.58 %). These results were slightly different from a previous study which reported from the same species: terpinen-4-ol (44 %), borneol (6.73 %), camphor (15.11 %) and α-terpineol (11.31 %).
